Its been a while.. some updates for you..
Since the last post back mid last year, (how bad is that) there has been some changes and alterations with sponsorship approaches and also to Charities involved with the Mount Everest Charity Challenge. But before I tell you more, I must apologise for my poor posting frequency on this diary page... but you will pleased to hear that posts will become more of a frequent thing and I have made a commitment to at least post news and details on here more than once every 7 months... maybe even once every week to keep you up to date with progress, which is what this diary site is all about. So come on tell us Rhys what has been going on? Where do I start... I think the biggest change has been to the charities involved which originally started out with five charities has now reduced to 2... Woking & Sam Beare Hospices and The British Heart Foundation. There have been numerous reasons for why this happened, which I will refrain going into too much detail about, so all I will say to you is this.... If you ever have plans of doing something on a large scale for charity, a word of advice would be to tell you this; Decide on a charity you would like to do it for and only do it for that charity. Dealing with multiple charities is time and energy draining and is also counter productive which can hinder your fund-raising efforts and progress. The reasons for this are quite simply because not all charities are the same size, which means their resources and ability to provide support to your efforts do vary, which as I have learnt since starting this challenge, can be a major headache when getting them all to agree to doing something on a joint effort basis. I have decided to stick with two charities, Woking & Sam Beare Hospices (as they cared for my Grandmother Barbara Walker and also my cousin Carl Morden who are sadly no longer with us, and I know first hand the amazing care and support that they provide in the local community) and The BHF, as both have been very good and both very supportive in giving advice and wanting to work together on this project for mutual benefit, which has gone beyond what I was originally expecting. So next time I do another Charity Event I will sticking with one charity. Finally just to finish off this post... I have also changed my approach to raising sponsorship and am going to approach adventure and travel related companies as this ties it with I am doing. Also my reasons for deciding this, is I want to show and encourage people to get involved in their own adventures as the choices of what you can do are so vast that you are only limited by your imagination. I think people need more adventure in their lives and I only hope that what I am doing inspires people to tackle their own mountain and make the decision to do the one thing they have always wanted to do... think about it!!! What have your dreamed of doing... what's your dream...? As a man once said "When we are old and grey... we sit and think about the things we didn't do, rather than ones that we did...! I don't know about you but I don't want to be old and grey, in my Alpine home sat out on my terrace looking out out onto the vast magical and inspiring mountain scenery thinking to my self "I wish I had attempted to climb Mount Everest when I had the chance... if only I could go back in time... why did I not just do it!!??" Here's to living your dream... until the next post... "Keep the Dream Alive!!"
DON'T JUST DREAM IT... DO IT!!
Cheers
